Northern Colorado

Leveraging Local Leaders (L3) was born right here in Northern Colorado, founded by two former elected officials from opposite sides of the aisle: Democrat Leah Johnson and Republican Tom Lucero. Both had firsthand experience with their parties’ candidate training programs, but by 2019 they shared a frustration with the growing lack of bipartisan problem-solving in local, regional, and state politics.

Instead of waiting for change, they built it, launch L3 to give aspiring leaders a better path forward—one rooted in collaboration, informed decision-making, and a commitment to community.

Today, L3 Northern Colorado is where the vision began—and where new voices continue to step up, get trained, and make an impact. This program equips you with the tools, connections, and confidence to serve: whether that means running for office, serving on a board or commission, or strengthening civic life in your community.
